Watermelon Couch Crowdfunding Video
This project has been two years in the making. What started as a desire to visualize my abstract paintings as 3d sculpture, has morphed into a multimedia adventure rooted in storytelling and agriculture. Join me on an epic adventure of discovery as I connect with farmers, activists, and artists throughout the world. My mission is to collect stories and build community through this sculptural art piece, the Watermelon Couch.
The Road Trips
This Summer, I will be traveling throughout the Deep South, interviewing Black watermelon farmers and other professionals in agriculture. The purpose of this trip is to create a multimedia library of creative resources that will inspire and educate about the contributions and state of Black farmers in America. With your help, I aim to raise $20,000 to cover travel and production costs throughout the summer. By supporting this project, you are contributing to a larger movement of addressing the food insecurities of underserved communities.
This Spring I traveled throughout Northern California to get my first sense of what this Watermelon Road Trip Could. Supporters donated $3k which enabled my team and I to travel to 3 different farms (rental truck and gas), attend the CA Black Farmers Conference, and conduct 11 interviews. This trip was a definite success that informed a lot of what I will be doing in the Summer.
