Marinship

Marinship Bus Station Design

April 2022 - This was a kool design project where I was able to take the momentum from the coloring book wall and transform the experience (and artwork) into a museum themed installation that featured the characters and information on the Marinshiop 80th celebration.

A Way Out of No Way - A Marinship Legacy

Located at the Marin Gateway Shopping Center, this coloring wall installation is part of a community celebration to honor the Black Shipyard Workers in WW2 who migrated from the south and overcame hardships and discrimination to make a way for their families and help win the war. The coloring wall featured 4 local heroes and contained a QR code that linked to a music soundtrack completed by the local youth about their experiences.

The goal of this project was to bring a coloring book and mural experience to life for community participation. Typically mural painting with large groups is very challenging as you have to account for a wide range of skill levels, but with the help of art instructors from the Bay Area Mural Program, we were able to pull off an unforgettable experience for children and adults.

In addition to the coloring walls, my final design was a tribute to the youth of Marin City. While visiting the installation for a clean up session I ran into one of the locals, Ricky, who shared some stories of what it was like growing up and that he personally knew the featured women Mrs. Annie Small and Mrs. Rodessa Battle.
